With the senior population in Forsyth County projected to increase by 100% between the years 2000 and 2030, it is necessary that Senior Services position itself to reach more seniors in need. The success of many of Senior Services' programs depends on the help of community volunteers, and the importance of volunteers will only grow as the organization works to meet the growing needs of our elderly. That is why WE NEED YOU!

Meals-on-Wheels Recruiting Volunteers

Meals-on-Wheels relies on more than 1,700 community volunteers to deliver meals to homebound seniors in need of food. Last year’s successful campaign to recruit 100 new volunteers in 100 days met, for the short term—and only for the short term—the demand for new volunteers to refill the ranks when volunteers retire. With more than 1,200 seniors depending on the meal-delivery service, it is vital for the program to maintain a volunteer corps equal to the task of delivering these meals each weekday, all year round.

The need for replacement volunteers is critical, so if you are interested and able to deliver meals once a week, once a month or even once a quarter, you are urged to download the application below, fill it out and mail it to Volunteer Coordinator Leslie Smith at Meals-on-Wheels, Senior Services, Inc., 2895 Shorefair Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. You can also e-mail Leslie or phone her at 721-6910 to let her know that you're interested in volunteering, and she will follow up with you.

Administration

On-Call Volunteer

As we strive to meet the needs of the ever-growing senior population of Forsyth County, we will occasionally have tasks that require more hands on deck than we can spare from our daily duties. While we may have advance notice on most, some occur quite suddenly. These projects include such things as bulk mailings, filing, returning phone calls, data entry, IT support, and shredding to name a few.

If you are interested in helping when needs arise, please fill out the volunteer application to be added to our volunteer “on-call” list. We appreciate your interest in Senior Services and our mission to assist the seniors in our community.

Telephone Reassurance Volunteer

Volunteers are needed for the Telephone Reassurance program, which relocated recently from Family Services to Senior Services. It is the job of program volunteers to telephone the older adults enrolled in the program at their homes in order to verify their well-being and to provide socialization and support. Volunteers make calls Monday through Friday, and they may make their calls from the comfort of their own homes or from an office at Senior Services.

If you are interested in becoming a Telephone Reassurance volunteer, please review the job description for more details, and then print, fill out and return the Telephone Reassurance Volunteer application if you want to apply. You can also call 721-6965 for additional information. Thank you for your interest in caring for the seniors of Forsyth County!
