Q: Will Medicare pay for a short hospital stay?
A: Medicare Part A is your hospital insurance. If you stay in a hospital overnight, you might still be considered an “outpatient.” Your hospital status (whether the hospital considers you an “inpatient” or “outpatient”) affects how much you pay for hospital services (like x-rays, drugs, and lab tests) and may also affect whether Medicare will cover the care you get in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) following your hospital stay. Please ask the hospital staff during your first 24-hour period if you are an “inpatient” or “outpatient.”
Q: Is there any financial assistance to help with hospital bills?
A: Financial assistance may be available through both medical groups (Wake Health and Novant) to eligible patients. To learn more about Wake Health financial assistance click here. To learn more about Novant Health financial assistance click here.
