Memory Makers: A memory cafe for caregivers and their loved ones living with memory disorders

You are invited to our next Memory Makers – a memory café supported by the Novant Foundation.

This free event is open to those within our community who are facing dementia. Being a caregiver of someone who has dementia can be emotionally grueling and socially isolating. Being someone who has dementia is painful and scary. At each café, we aim to provide a special bonding experience for both caregiver and person with dementia without ever mentioning “dementia”. We want this special population within our community to feel safe and to be able to make new memories that will serve as a reminder that whether caregiver or person living with dementia, EACH and EVERY LIFE MATTERS!

Below is a list of some of the many advantages of memory cafes.

Benefits of a Memory Café include:
• Improved cognition through the arts and exercise (sensory engagement, yoga, music, dance, etc.)
• Reduction of negative behaviors
• Reduction of social isolation
• A safe place where people can just “be”. They can check their disease at the door and enjoy participating in fun activities and socializing. Dementia, Alzheimer’s and other types of neurocognitive disorders are never mentioned.
• The atmosphere is perfect for creating meaningful, bonding experiences for the caregiver and their loved one

We can’t thank the Novant Foundation, Inc. enough for supporting these events. We are also grateful that Mt. Carmel UMC has agreed to host our events in 2020!

We hope to continue to offer these beautiful bonding experiences to our community for years to come. If you would like to be on an email list serve to be invited to future events, please provide us with that information as well. It is not necessary that participants be Novant patients. We welcome anyone who would benefit from this special event.
