Celebrating Meals-on-Wheels Champions

Postings |

We’re wrapping up our month-long March for Meals celebration, which recognizes Meals-on-Wheels programs across the nation and more importantly, the older adults who rely on this essential service to remain healthy, independent, and at home. As March comes to an end we want to thank all of the Meals-on-Wheels champions, our volunteers, who go above and beyond year-round to help seniors in need of nutritional support.

Senior Services also sends our appreciation to the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness collaborators who volunteered during Community Champions Week which kicked off on March 20! We were honored to have representatives from Cancer Services, HandsOn NWNC, Hispanic League, Novant Health, Wake Forest University, and Winston-Salem State University display how agencies and organizations can come together to positively impact the lives and well-being of older adults in our community! These professionals, turned Meals-on-Wheels champions, represented some of the 21 collaborating organizations that will bring innovative programs and services to the future Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness. Delivering meals showed their dedication to the project and the importance of supporting seniors. “I’m passionate about giving back and serving the community. Everyone deserves to eat, and volunteering [for Meals-on-Wheels] is an easy way to make sure everyone has the food they deserve,” said Jessica Ijames from Novant Health. Mari Jo Turner, executive director of Hispanic League reflected that, “[it] gives us the opportunity to give back to the community.”

We are excited to see how they continue to foster the spirit of collaboration and help improve the lives of local older adults. Check out photos from throughout the month at the link below:

Keep the Celebration Going!

Our Meals-on-Wheels program serves around 1,100 individuals each weekday, which means we need lots of support to make sure every hot meal is delivered with a warm smile.

We invite you to bring the spirit of March for Meals throughout the year and become a Meals-on-Wheels Champion! Volunteer to deliver hot, nutritious meals and make a difference in the lives of older adults in our community.
