Summit Students to the Rescue!

Meals-on-Wheels to Pets? It's a Thing...Thanks to These Students!

Postings |

Dogs and cats provide companionship and purpose to many older adults who receive Meals-on-Wheels, but often their difficulty obtaining and preparing meals extends to their animal companions.  Meals-on-Wheels volunteers recognized this potential challenge and began collecting dog and cat food that could be taken out on routes for seniors that request it.

The students measured out a week’s worth of pet food into plastic bags,  loaded the bags onto a bus, and brought them over to Senior Services. Once here, they unloaded and arranged them in the Meals-on-Wheels pick up room for delivery to seniors (and their pets) in need. The bags just kept coming—we couldn’t believe it! To top it all off, the group then got the chance to go on a Meals-on-Wheels route, delivering a hot nutritious meal to homebound seniors and even getting to share some of the pet food they collected with their four-legged companions. We imagine there will be many wagging tails and warm hearts thanks to the time and energy that these caring students put into the project. Way to go, Summit School! Remember, you and your group or organization can make an impact on the lives of older adults too – there are many ways to get involved! Find out how.

9th graders Katherine , Grace , Charles, Parker and Ty  brought joy to many Meals-on-Wheels participants after leading a pet food drive for their four leg companions.
