A Special Delivery Vehicle

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, and in keeping with its commitment to support local communities nationwide, Subaru of America, Inc., in collaboration with Meals on Wheels America, has awarded a 2018 Subaru Outback to Senior Services’ Meals-on-Wheels program—1 of 50 meal-delivery programs in the U.S. to receive this distinction.  Senior Services and its volunteers deliver meals to 1,120 Meals-on-Wheels participants through 70 hot-meal routes every weekday and 20 bi-weekly frozen-meal routes. The new Outback will enhance the program’s delivery capabilities and provide a safe, efficient means of transportation.

“Subaru’s ‘50 Cars for 50 Years’ vehicle donation will enable Meals-on-Wheels programs like the one at Senior Services to expand its reach to many area seniors in need,” said Ellie Hollander, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels America. “This latest act of care and kindness further underscores Subaru of America’s longstanding commitment to giving back to communities large and small.”

The 2018 Outback, after arriving at Senior Services, was put to good use in its first “official” meal delivery on Wednesday, November 29,  when Subaru regional management representatives gathered at the Senior Services Center to fill the cargo space with emergency meals for distribution to meal recipients.  The Subaru was used to transport these shelf-stable meals for homebound seniors to have on hand during the upcoming months should inclement winter weather keep Meals-on-Wheels volunteers off the roads.

“We are thrilled to be 1 of the 50 selected to receive a 2018 Subaru Outback,” said T. Lee Covington, president and CEO of Senior Services. “This vehicle will allow us to deliver meals efficiently and safely for many years to come, and we are grateful to Subaru of America and Meals on Wheels America for making this possible!”
