FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Meals on Wheels helps thousands of people daily, yet the need is constantly growing. Senior Services in Forsyth County is putting a dent in its waiting list by adding a new route in Kernersville. Although the organization serves nearly 1,200 people [through the Meals-on-Wheels program], there are constant calls and referrals from others who want help.

“We had a really high wait list in Kernersville, so we wanted to be able to reach more residents out there to get meals to them. That’s why we’ve created the new route,” said Heather Livengood, volunteer coordinator at Meals on Wheels Forsyth County. Meals are delivered to people at Koerner Place Apartments and Gateway Place Apartments in Kernersville.

People in these communities were already receiving meals, but this helped free up enough space for new clients to be added to existing routes.

  • 16 people have been taken off of the waiting list.
  • There are now about 43 people waiting for assistance throughout the county.

Senior Services has the volunteers it needs in Kernersville, but needs about 30 volunteers to cover other areas in Forsyth County.
