A Book With Purpose Event

As Episcopal Christians, addressing the sin of racism is part of our Baptismal call to “respect the dignity of every human being.” Trust in Jesus’ resurrection requires us to look at the places in our world where new creation is not yet happening and join God in making it so. Stamped:  Racism, Antiracism, and You by Ibram X. Kendi and Jason Reynolds is a comprehensive history of race and racism in America.  A more complete understanding of how we came to this present moment can be very helpful in creating the solutions we all need to move forward into a better future. This five-part series will invite honest engagement with the history of race in this country, considered through a Christian theological lens. We will be using the Young Adult version of Stamped, but make no mistake, the ideas discussed will remain challenging for all adults, whether young and old.  Join us as we look at ourselves and our world, praying that God will make things on earth as they are in heaven.

This introductory session will be The Rev. Dixon Kinser, Rector, St. Paul’s Episcopal, Esharan Monroe-Johnson, Executive Director of Read | Write | Spell, and Jonathan L. Walton, Dean of the Wake Forest University School of Divinity. Book study sessions will be facilitated by Kathy Ausen, St. Paul’s Episcopal parishioner and Ricky Shore, St. Paul’s Episcopal parishioner.
