Making Sense of the Presidential Nomination Process

Dr. John Dinan, Professor of Politics and International Affairs, Wake Forest University will explore the process in his lecture “The Presidential Nomination Process: Is This the Best Way to Select Candidates?” Dinan will focus on the nomination process, how well it works and how it might be improved. This timely lecture will give North Carolina voters an opportunity to better understand how we move from campaign to primary to the actual nomination of the candidate.

Dr. Dinan’s research focuses on state constitutionalism, federalism, and American political development. Considered an expert in his field, Dr. Dinan frequently provides commentary for news outlets across the country as well as teaching courses on campaigns and elections, state politics and congress, and policymaking. He is the author of several books, including State Constitutional Politics: Governing by Amendment in the American States and The American State Constitutional Tradition, and he writes an annual entry on state constitutional developments for The Book of the States. He is the editor of Publius: The Journal of Federalism and is a past chair of the Federalism and Intergovernmental Relations Section of the American Political Science Association. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, 2020, 7:00 p.m. at the Byrum Welcome Center Auditorium, 1834 Wake Forest Road, Winston Salem.
