Dr. White will discuss “Scottish Genes, African Tapestry: My Family’s North Carolina Enslavement, Endurance of Post-Reconstruction Violence, and America’s Current Racial Dilemma.” Over the past decade, Dr. White has faced the challenge of raising a transracial family in the South, reckoned with being descended from one of the largest slaveholding families in America, and faced the history of a nineteenth-century ancestor being lynched by white supremacists. Her new book, Survivor’s Guilt: Essays on Race and American Identity, also discusses this topic. This will be a virtual event. To register, email info@bookmarksnc.org.
