Senior Services Joins in 16th Annual March for Meals Celebration

We’re fighting senior hunger and isolation in Forsyth County!

Senior Services is joining thousands of Meals-on-Wheels programs from across the country in the 16th annual March for Meals—a month-long,  celebration of Meals-on-Wheels and the seniors who rely on the vital service to remain independent and at home. Senior Service’s celebration will include various activities throughout the month of March, including a Pack the Outback food drive and Community Champions week (March 19-23), when representatives from the Winston-Salem Police Department, Forsyth County Fire Department and Forsyth County EMS will deliver meals to homebound seniors. Local mayors have signed proclamations, designating this month the 16th annual March for Meals all across Forsyth County!

Meals-on-Wheels America’s annual March for Meals commemorates the historic day in March 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years of age and older. Since 2002 Meals-on-Wheels programs from across the country have joined forces for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate this successful public-private partnership and garner the support needed to fill the gap between the seniors served and those still in need.
