Q: My aunt is moving here from New York, and I want to be of assistance.  Where do I start?
A: Community resources and benefits vary from state to state. Forsyth County has many different housing options for seniors. There are many factors to be considered when determining appropriate housing. First, what are her financial resources? Second, will she require any assistance with her daily activities (health needs, transportation needs and in-home support)? Finally, what insurance does she have, and what benefits does she currently receive?

Q: What is low-income housing?
A: If a person is looking for housing based on his or her income, a subsidized senior community could be an affordable option.  Subsidized apartments are in high demand and may maintain a waiting list. Most are one-bedroom units. Rent in these apartments averages around 30% of a person’s income.
