Q: My husband is in a wheelchair and has a doctor’s appointment. What are our transportation options?
A: Community based volunteer programs utilize the volunteer’s personal vehicles and are not able to transport wheelchairs. There are, however, a variety of private pay wheelchair accessible options through private companies and taxi services. If a person has full Medicaid they can call the Medicaid transportation unit listed above for medical transports. Trans-AID is Forsyth County’s publicly funded wheelchair accessible transportation option for older adults and people with disabilities. There is a nominal fee for their service.

Q: I have heard there is a need for volunteer transportation drivers in Forsyth County. How can I help?
A:  There are several volunteer transportation resources located throughout Forsyth County’s communities. If you are interested in volunteering in your area please contact one of the providers above. The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) may be a way for volunteer drivers to receive a nominal mileage reimbursement. Please visit here for more information about RSVP.

If you are interested in advocating for ample and accessible transportation in Forsyth County, please contact the Area Agency on Aging at 336.904.0300 or visit the Community Events Calendar and look for information about Forsyth in Motion.
