Enjoying Life Once More

Williams Center Participant Finds Renewed Purpose and Joy

Postings |

Not long after taking over as Linda’s new caregivers, her niece and nephew knew they could not manage her Alzheimer’s disease and dementia alone.  They oversaw a dramatic change in Linda’s diet that they credited with an improvement in her physical health, but they turned to the Williams Adult Day Center for the daily emotional support and social interaction needed for individuals with memory disorders.  In the beginning, Linda seemed withdrawn and displayed a limited range of emotions.  Within a few weeks at the center, however, she started coming out of her shell.  She began socializing with the other participants and joining wholeheartedly in the planned activities, laughing and enjoying life as she once had.

Now seen as a “super positive” influence at the center, Linda helps lift the spirits of her fellow participants and acts as a mentor for some.  She is very active with the Kindermusik program, which was introduced at the center earlier this year.  It is with real warmth and joy that she interacts with the toddlers who are part of this multi-generational pilot project and clearly relishes the music and movement that are part of the curriculum.

Linda’s unbridled enthusiasm has even landed her on the center’s “receiving committee” for individuals arriving for a trial visit.  She thoroughly enjoys welcoming prospective participants and sharing with them how the staff and friends at the center have given her a purpose for life she had once thought was long gone.
