Before that, he was the executive director of Rockingham County’s Aging, Disability and Transit Services, an agency that offers services in the Senior Services vein. Previous to that, he filled several leadership roles at the Arc of the Piedmont, a nonprofit organization that helps people with intellectual and development disabilities in Charlottesville, Va.

He has a master’s degree in public administration from UNC-Greensboro.

Covington is experienced and well-qualified for the role he’s taking on here. He comes on board just in time to spearhead the new “Aging with Purpose” initiative, which aims to partner Senior Services’ resources with those of all manners of organizations in the community to help seniors fight the social and emotional difficulties that can accompany aging today. It will be quite a task.

“Lee is a visionary leader whose passion for the mission of Senior Services inspires others to work with him in serving the needs of the frail elderly in our community,” Sandra Adams, board chair for Senior Services, said in a news release. “He is recognized throughout the state for his innovative, strategic work on behalf of the aging.”

“I’m humbled and honored to follow in the footsteps of Richard Gottlieb and excited to begin work to continue the strong tradition that has been established during Richard’s 35-year tenure,” Covington said in the news release. “Senior Services has the most incredible staff, board and volunteers who make great things happen every day in the lives of seniors across our wonderful county. I am thrilled to be a part of that magic!”

We welcome T. Lee Covington to his new role and expect to report the progress he makes there, building on the legacy of those who preceded him.
