Help Line provides information on local resources for seniors, their caregivers and professionals. Comprehensive assessments are completed to determine the individual needs of clients, and assistance is provided to link them with appropriate services.
Aging Resources counselors provide supportive counseling to seniors and their caregivers on topics such as in-home service, housing options, community resources and long-term planning.
Help Line partners with other local aging and disability agencies to form the Community Resource Connection (CRC) for Aging and Disabilities of Forsyth County.
The CRC creates a coordinated system of information and access for older adults (60+) and adults (18+) with disabilities, as well as their caregivers. Both public- and private-pay services are considered within this system.
Forsyth County has a “no wrong door” model, where the consumer can effectively access information and services through any number of community partner "doors." There is no more repeating the same story to each agency, no more calling several sources for referral and information.
Some of the most common resources that are located through Help Line include the following:
- Transportation (for medical care, to shop for food),
- Help in the home with personal care,
- Meals and nutrition programs,
- Housekeeping and sitter services,
- Resources for home modification and home repair services,
- Information on housing options, including nursing home placement, and
- Recreation and volunteer opportunities.
Help Line has counselors who have been trained through the Seniors’ Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), a consumer information division of the North Carolina Department of Insurance. Help Line's SHIIP counselors are qualified to assist individuals with questions on Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage and long-term-care insurance.
Help Line also maintains educational materials and a lending library of books and videos that relate to the many aspects of aging and caregiving. Free educational fact sheets are also available.
