Senior Services opened its doors on Saturday, March 8 at 10 A.M. for the fourth annual Art Show and Sale Benefiting Meals-on-Wheels. An outgrowth of the idea shared by local artists Dell James and Bonnie Dempster to bring artists together to raise funds for Meals-on-Wheels, the show continues to attract crowds of art lovers and art buyers. James and Dempster were the honorary co-chairs for this year’s event, along with their husbands, Frank James and Joe Dempster, and their work was represented in the show, along with that of 41 other artists.
As in past years, an exciting selection of art―varied media at all price levels―by well-known area artists was available for purchase, and the show was open to the public free of charge. The participating artists are donating a generous portion of their proceeds to provide nutritious meals for the homebound elderly through Senior Services’ Meals-on-Wheels program, which last year delivered its five-millionth meal in Forsyth County. More than 1,230 senior citizens receive meals through the program each weekday, and a corps of 1,800 volunteers helps with home delivery. Additional funds for Meals-on-Wheels are generated by sponsor and patron support.
Senior Services wishes to acknowledge and thank the generous businesses that sponsored the 2014 Meals-on-Wheels benefit. Check out their websites using the links in the list below.
